What We Do
BPIA is an industry advocacy platform for majority Black owned pharmaceutical companies. The association is dedicated
to transforming and developing the pharmaceutical sector and ensuring these company’s views and aspirations are
incorporated into all healthcare policies regulating the industry.
Our Vision
To promote greater spread of Black business ownership in the pharmaceutical sector and provide consumers with
competitively priced, quality product choices essentially compensating for the years of lost opportunity in transforming and
developing the pharmaceutical sector and its contribution to the South African economy.
Our Key Objectives

Improving access to affordable, safe, efficacious and quality medicines to all South Africans.

NATIONAL DEVELOPMENT
Improving knowledge, efficiency and management skills of pharmaceutical personnel.
Supporting development of the local pharma industry and local production of essential drugs.

Lowering the cost of drugs in the private and public sectors. Establishing complementary
partnerships between government bodies and private providers in thepharma sector.
Key Initiatives
Establishment Of The NECSA Pharmaceutical & Medical Device Manufacturing Cluster
The BPIA has signed a MOU with the Nuclear Energy Corporation of SA in Dec of 2023 to establish the first manufacturing cluster of Pharma and medical devices in SA within NECSA precinct. The latter has in excess of 144 empty buildings which BPIA member companies and other industry players can set up their manufacturing plants. In excess of 18 companies that have expressed interest and have started lease engagements with NECSA. Products that will be manufactured include API’s, Finished Formulations, Various Therapeutic Classes of medicines which in the main form part of the Non Awarded Medicines for the NDOH and export market into the continent leveraging the AfCFTA.
